Students Participate in Engineering Fair

The 9th Annual Mathematics and Engineering Design Competition was held Feb. 11, 2016 at the Muskogee Civic Center.  The annual event is sponsored by the Muskogee Area Educational Consortium, Indian Capital Technology Center and the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics.  Representatives from several local businesses and colleges/universities had informational booths available for students to visit and to learn more about engineering related opportunities in our area and across the state.

The event consisted of five subject area mathematics exams and two engineering design competitions.  Student participants were divided into two divisions: Division I, grades 6-8 and Division II, grades 9-12.

The math exams were for 6th, 7th and 8th grade Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Advanced Mathematics.  Each school could register a maximum of five students per exam.  Each exam consisted of 45 multiple-choice questions.  Student participants had to be currently enrolled in the math class that matched the title of the exam they were taking.

A rubber band powered ping pong ball launcher and a mousetrap powered vehicle were the two engineering designs for this year’s fair.  Each school could register one team per grade with a maximum of two students per team.
