5th Graders Participate in Colonial Day

Ms. Trusty and her fifth grade homeroom attended this year’s Oklahoma Colonial Day at the State Capitol. Her students have prepared all year learning about the Revolutionary War Era in order to attend the big event with 300 other fifth graders across the state of Oklahoma. Ms. Trusty’s class was the only class chosen on this side of the state to represent the east side of Oklahoma, as well as Muskogee. They came fully dressed in colonial attire. They were able to debate on the Senate Floor whether or not they were a “loyalist or a patriot." The students learned about colonial games and the spy ring of George Washington. They were also honored to hear the stories about the war and the making of America directly from Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton from Williamsburg, Virginia and Mt. Vernon.
