OSU Cowboy Connection updates for December
This is the December edition of Cowboy Connection from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Oklahoma State University.
OSU's Priority Scholarship Deadline (Feb. 1) Please continue to encourage your students to apply for admission and file their FAFSA by Feb. 1 to meet OSU's Priority Scholarship Deadline. We will consider students for admission without a test score, but some scholarships will require a test score. We'll begin awarding some competitive scholarships as early as December, so we encourage students to submit their application materials (including test scores) as early as they are available for consideration. The earlier, the better!
The FAFSA is Open Remind your students the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened Oct. 1. Students should fill out the 2022-2023 FAFSA as soon as possible to maximize their scholarship potential. Spring Orientation and Housing Opening Orientation and enrollment dates for the spring 2022 semester are now open. Housing registration began Dec. 1. If you are working with students who plan to begin their freshman year at OSU in the spring semester, your students should visit their admissions portal to sign up. More information about orientation and enrollment can be found at firstyearsuccess.okstate.edu.
Enrollment Deposit Opened Dec. 1 A reminder that OSU's enrollment deposit opened Dec. 1. The enrollment deposit can be refunded in part ($250) until May 1. Once students complete this step, they can sign up for housing and orientation and enrollment beginning Feb. 1. Please note, while students apply for housing on Feb. 1, the date and time they submit their housing registration determines the order in which they will be able to select a room later in the spring. Students will be notified of their actual date to pick a room via email in March.
CAS Recruitment CAS Recruitment now offers a fully immersive experience for students and parents who are Spanish speakers. If you would like to chat with our Spanish speaker representative about majors and the College of Arts and Sciences, please email kgutierrez@okstate.edu or call 405-744-4968.
Freshman Research Scholars The Freshman Research Scholars Program provides first-year students in any major a hands-on learning experience. Students selected for this program receive a $1000 scholarship and guidance throughout the fall semester to help them identify a faculty mentor in their chosen field. They will then join a research project with their faculty mentor for the fall and spring semesters. In April, the student will participate in the Freshman Research Scholars Symposium, where they will share a poster about their research project. The application deadline for this program is February 1, 2022. To apply, students should log into their completed OSU application and locate a section titled “Consider Research,” which leads to the application, or they can access it here. Language Placement Test Students who enter OSU with at least one year of high school French, German, or Spanish may take a free placement test that can allow them to receive up to six credits of language courses for free. If they have taken American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Japanese, Latin or Russian, they may also receive advanced standing credit.
