The Eight Parts of Speech

  1. Noun=A word that names a person, place, or thing. Ex. dog, doctor, Hilldale, honesty
  2. Verb=A word that shows action or state of being. Ex. do, dig, run, was, jump
  3. Adverb=A word that describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb and tell where, when, how, or to what extent. Ex. now, soon, lovely, amazingly
  4. Pronoun=A word used in place of a noun. Ex. she, me, I, you, they
  5. Adjective=A word that describes or gives more information about a noun or pronoun. Ex. joyful, dirty, turquoise, three
  6. Preposition=A word that shows the relationship of a noun or a pronoun to another word. Ex. of, with, down, around
  7. Conjunction=A word that connects words or groups of words. Ex. and, or, but, so
  8. Interjection=A word that expresses surprise or strong feeling. Ex. Well, Woah, Wow, Awesome
