As a teacher and a parent, I know that communication is key to a student’s success. Goals and Objectives
In 7th grade geography, students will be studying the why of where - places, patterns of settlements, and global interactions. Students will study the concepts of economics and the impact of recent history on contemporary events. We will be discussing spatial patterns of human and physical characteristics of the world and its people, and explore how these patterns form, change over time, and relate to one another in the Eastern Hemisphere. The Eastern Hemisphere studies will include Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, and Oceania. We will be using the textbooks My World Interactive by the publishing company Savvas. The textbook may be accessed through savvas.com. The user name will be the student's firstname.lastname@hms. Their password will be their first name initial and last name initial followed by their student ID.

Classroom Policies
- Respect yourself and others.
- Follow directions.
- Students must bring all classroom materials daily.
- Homework is due at the beginning of the hour.
- Food and/or drinks are not allowed in the classroom, including gum or candy.
- Cell phones need to be placed on mute and placed out of sight.
Grading
In this class, you will rarely receive homework assignments and will have occasional quizzes/tests. Therefore, your grade is based upon your participation in class and your notebook. Grades will be calculated by daily assignments, quizzes, tests, etc.They will be calculated by a percentage of the total points possible during that grading period. Points vary with each assignment and will be determined by the teacher. Grades may be checked anytime by parents/students online via school website.
Late Work Policy
The first day the assignment is late will result in a 10% deduction of the total grade. If the assignment is more than one day late, the student will receive a 50% deduction of the original grade. After one week, the assignment will not be accepted and will earn a zero in the gradebook. This does not pertain to absent work, unless the student exceeds the allotted days given for absent work that is stated in the handbook.
Grades may be checked anytime by parents/students online via school website.
Absences
The student is responsible for gathering the information and assignment for the days they were absent. Students have 2 days to make up assignments for an absence. The assignment will be due on the third day after the absence. If the student does not have the assignment on the third day, then the late policy will be administered. Students are responsible for gathering assignments upon returning to class. If a student is absent the day of a test, they must be prepared to take the test on the day they return to class.
I will be placing all assignments in Google Classroom when students are absent for more than one day. I will try my best to place them online in a timely manner. Please be patient with me in doing so, as the daily schedule permits. Students are encouraged to ask questions via email or the Remind App about the assignments while they are absent in order to help them stay on top of assignments.
