We are proud to announce that Amber Horn, Hilldale Middle School, will be honored at the Professional Oklahoma Educators Foundation Excellence in Education Merit & Character Awards Banquet, scheduled for 6:00 p.m., April 15 at the Dominion House in Guthrie. Horn is a finalist for the Junior High Merit Award.

The Excellence in Education Merit & Character Awards Banquet is a venue for recognizing and rewarding Oklahoma educators who demonstrate a commitment to their students in teaching strength of character and excellence in the classroom. Award nominees must submit several documents with their applications, including reference letters from students, parents and administrators, etc. According to POE Executive Director Ginger Tinney, “These awards will serve as an encouragement to not only Oklahoma educators, but also to the many business, organizations, and communities that have a stake in the character building and intellectual development of the children who will shape our State in the future.”

The Professional Oklahoma Educators Foundation  will recognize finalists in six merit award categories: elementary, middle school/junior high, high school, special education, non-certified staff (secretaries, aides, bus drivers and other staff) and administrator, and two character award categories: teacher and school. One winner from each of the eight categories will be announced at the banquet.

This night of fine dining, musical entertainment and presentation of prestigious awards will begin with hors d’oeuvres at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 6:30. The keynote address will be given by Dr. Allene Magill, Executive Director of Professional Association of Georgia Educators, and the Master of Ceremonies will be Brigadier General Ben Robinson.
