Coody Family Scholarship
The Coody Family Scholarship was created in 2019 as a perpetual, memorial tribute to the Coody family commitment to education, who have served as a secretary, a coach, a Speech-Language Pathologist, teachers and administrators, encompassing a collective nearly 100 years of passion for education and providing support to students and faculty in public schools. It is the family’s hope that this scholarship will, in a small way, continue their support for the generations to come. This scholarship is intended for the recipient’s post-secondary education, at a university or technical school.
Criteria
Students applying for this scholarship fund, must meet the following criteria to be eligible to qualify:
1. Graduating senior in good standing with Hilldale High School (HHS)
2. Have been a HHS student for a minimum of 2 full years, the junior and senior years
3. Have been involved in at least three student organizations or activities for their entirety during their junior and/or senior year.
4. Have a cumulative minimum high school Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7 (based on a 4.0 scale) or better at the end of first semester of the senior year
5. Provide documentation of enrollment in college or a technology center for the fall following graduation.
Selection Process
1. All qualifying, interested students should submit a one-page essay discussing personal history, qualifications, achievements, and their passion for their chosen post-secondary path. Also, include a separate page, a brief resume of their school and community activities and list of scholarships, grants, etc., applied for or received. All documentation should be submitted to the HHS Principal by April 15 of each school year. Applicants are highly encouraged to be detailed and creative.
2. Upon receipt of the entries, the Principal and/or Counselor will forward the applications to the Coody family, who will review the documentation and announce the winner at the HHS Senior Banquet.
Financials
A one-time $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the selected recipient upon receipt of enrollment documentation. The scholarship may be used for tuition, books, room and board or other post-secondary education expenses as seen fit by the selected applicant.
