The Frances Crawford Marvin American Indian Scholarship is awarded annually to one Native American student who is a United States citizen. The scholarship for 2023-2024 is $3,500. High school seniors as well as college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply. A candidate for this undergraduate scholarship must be enrolled full time (based on 12 credit hours per semester or as defined by their educational institution) at a two- or four-year college or university in 2023-2024.
Applicants must be Native Americans and be able to prove current enrollment in a tribe that is recognized at a state and/or federal level. Proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers. AncestryDNA® is not sufficient. Students must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and have a 3.25 GPA or higher based on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent GPA on the scale used by the applicable educational institution.
The DAR Academic Works portal is open for scholarship applications from November 1, 2022 through January 31, 2023, for the next academic year. No applications or materials will be accepted other than via the online application submission portal. Two to four recommendations, academic transcript, and a one-page resume must be included. All information must be submitted by January 31, 2023, 11:59 P.M. HST (Hawaii Standard Time). A recipient may reapply for this scholarship to be considered along with other members of the applicant pool.
