Language Fair
Elementary students in 3rd-5th grades were presented a Language Fair April 26-28th. The Language Fair was presented by third, fourth, and fifth grade bilingual students. Spanish, Vietnamese, and Cherokee languages and cultures were represented. Bilingual students shared about holidays and foods with their peers, taught words in Spanish and Vietnamese, and read books in Spanish.
At the end of the Language Fair, presenting students asked what their peers learned from the experience. One third grade student said, “I had no idea there were so many different languages spoken by kids at Hilldale. I am happy I came to Hilldale, so I can learn about their languages.” Other students commented about the importance of acceptance, valuing differences, and learning from each other.
There are 8 different languages spoken among the students at Hilldale. It was wonderful to highlight these languages and cultures. Hilldale is a place where all students can let their unique strengths shine. It’s a great day to be a Hornet!
